Aloha!
Scuba diving has been my passion especially these few years. I just joined a dive club with Island Divers, and started to join their club dives. The reason was because I wanted to learn about new dive sites on the island. I wanted to see if Oahu diving is just OK as I always thought, and it has been pretty enjoyable :) It is so hard to find information on many dive sites online, so I decided to make some information page for the dive sites I enjoyed.
Location: Spitting Cave (Hawaii Kai Area)
Date: September 29, 2024
Time: 11:32am (49:42 dive time)
Tempereture: 79 F
Max Depth: 47ft
Type of Dive: Boat, Drift, Negative Entry
Cost: Approx. $150 for 3 dives (with the club discount with 3 rental tanks) with Island Divers
My Personal Rate: 5 stars
I signed up to this 3 tank club dive because we were supposed to go to Rabbit Island. In the morning, the current was rough so we changed our plan to dive New Barge & 2nd Baby Barge for the first 2 dives. Magically, the condition has changed, so Captain Matt took us to Spitting Cave, which was one of my high list on Oahu dive sites.
The East side current is typically strong, so we quickly jumped into the water one by one about the same time so we could stay together. The topography here is so gorgeous. We were going in and out of the caves alongside of the Spitting Cave / China Walls area.
Even though the surface is quite crazy as you can see in this photo, at the bottom isn’t too bad. Periodically I felt the push and pull, but wasn’t bad at all. When you go inside of the cave, you want to make sure you are near the side walls, instead of the center of the cave, so you aren’t going to be spitted out.
If you want to feel adventurous, you should definitely bring your torch to look into the caves and dark spots. You can find sharks, turtles, eels, and I heard you could encounter monk seals here but we weren’t lucky enough to see one today.
Most of the inside of the cave were calm. This was the biggest opening I saw from this dive today, and I loved the composition with the fellow diver.
The condition has to be great to be able to dive here, but if you are lucky enough to do so, you will for sure love this spot :) Hope you enjoyed this blog post. Happy diving!
